Feed Us with the Promised Bread

TITLE: Feed Us with the Promised Bread METER: Rabble 7.7.7.7 LITURGICAL SETTING: Communion SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE: Exodus 16, Numbers 11, Psalm 78

1. Lo, in Egypt we recall
fish eaten without a cost.

Hast thou brought us here to starve

in this barren wilderness?

2. In the morning, like fine frost,
manna for our daily bread.

Gather little; gather much–

all shall have their fill instead.

3. Nothing but this bread to eat,
Fails our spirits in our chests.

God shall drive by Spirit’s breeze
quail to satisfy our lust.

4. Parched and weary now the flock,
water nowhere to be found.

Moses strikes upon the rock,
quenches thirsty desert ground.

5. Feed us with the promised bread
food from heaven that we crave.

Giv’n today as thou hast prayed–

just enough for each new day.

6. Listen to our protest song

echoing what once was said:

Thou has brought us here so far.

Feed us with the promised bread.
